Culture is what one does in his/her daily life. In order to understand others, we must first keep in mind that every culture carries its own set of values and assumptions. Culture is an evolving, ever changing civilization, which includes several different groups people. Symbolism is the use of symbols to express or represent ideas or qualities in literature. There are many symbols throughout Nathanial Hawthorne’s novel The Scarlet Letter. The characters and many different things throughout the book are all symbolic, but the main symbol in the novel is the letter â€Å"A† on Hester Prynne’s gown. Not only are there many symbols throughout the novel, but the letter â€Å"A† has many different representations of itself such as, adultery, which is the main symbol for the â€Å"A,† her ability to do things, and she is even referred to as an angel. The letter is meant to be a symbol of shame, but instead it becomes a powerful symbol of identity to Hester. BecauseICan was surprised all right. She saw an old lady, not just old but ancient, like dinosaurs kind of old, sitting in front of a stack of nasty looking tires, a piece of warped wood on top of them, with a magenta green bowling boll in the middle of the table like creation. Page 4What the old women said was the last thing on earth that BecauseICan was expecting to hear. I am psychic and in your future I see, the old women said, well hovering her hands over the chipped and worn out bowling ball, that your life will soon be better! With that BecauseICan looked at all three women and shouted, I have had enough of this better life crap!
